Nikolas Ventourakis returns to a car repair shop on the brink of disappearance—an Alfa Romeo workshop woven into both his personal history and the memories of those who once passed through it. Through long exposures, photographs, and video fragments, he traces the space’s gradual unmaking, transforming the fading site of labor into one of reflection, where memory, material, and the remnants of lived experience quietly intersect. This new body of works will form the core of his upcoming solo show at Callirrhoë.

Ο Νικόλας Βεντουράκης επιστρέφει σε ένα συνεργείο αυτοκινήτων στα πρόθυρα της εξαφάνισης—ένα συνεργείο Alfa Romeo άρρηκτα δεμένο τόσο με τη δική του ιστορία όσο και με τις μνήμες όσων το επισκέφτηκαν ανά τα χρόνια. Μέσα από μακράς διάρκειας λήψεις, φωτογραφίες και αποσπασματικά βίντεο, παρακολουθεί τη σταδιακή αποδόμηση του χώρου, μεταμορφώνοντας τον φθίνοντα τόπο εργασίας σε πεδίο στοχασμού, όπου η μνήμη, η ύλη και τα ίχνη της βιωμένης εμπειρίας συναντιούνται αθόρυβα. Αυτό το νέο σώμα έργων θα αποτελέσει τον πυρήνα της επερχόμενης ατομικής του έκθεσης στην Callirrhoë.

The exhibition Disappearing act / second life brings together practices that experiment with the materiality of the analog image, still or moving, and with the processes that it is intertwined. By testing the limits of their medium, the participating artists investigate process and performativity as essential components of their production. Whether the material is found or documented by the artists themselves, the exhibition balances between the gradual appearance and disappearance of the image, focusing on the “second life” it acquires as a material entity penetrating our digital era.

Η έκθεση Disappearing act / second life φέρνει κοντά πρακτικές που πειραματίζονται με την υλικότητα της αναλογικής εικόνας, στατικής ή κινούμενης, και τις διαδικασίες με τις οποίες συνδέεται. Δοκιμάζοντας τα όρια του υλικού τους, οι καλλιτέχνες ερευνούν τη διαδικασία και την επιτελεστικότητα της ως απαραίτητο συστατικό της παραγωγής τους. Είτε αφορά ευρεθέν υλικό, είτε πληροφορία που οι ίδιοι καταγράφουν, η έκθεση ισορροπεί ανάμεσα στην σταδιακή “εμφάνιση” και εξαφάνιση της εικόνας και εστιάζει στη δεύτερη ζωή του υλικού στοιχείου που παρεισφρύει στην ψηφιακή μας εποχή.
