Crossroads

Crossroads is where we meet: Three French artists Hélène Bertin, Éléonore False, Ingrid Luche undertake the classic trip to the land of all myths, Athens where the artist Malvina Panagiotidi, joins them to further the exploration on rituals, rites, myths and processes of othering. This crossroad is safeguarded by Hecate, the Goddess of Crossroads and protector of the travelers who stands for in- between worlds, magic, witchcraft, ghosts, necromancy etc. Hecate was often represented as triple-formed, with three bodies standing back-to-back, probably so that she could look in all directions at once from the crossroads. Because of her polymorphy and ambivalence, she encourages us to embrace alterity and plurality.

Crossroads, εκεί που όλοι συναντιόμαστε: τρεις καλλιτέχνιδες από τη Γαλλία, η Hélène Bertin, η Éléonore False και η Ingrid Luche επιχειρούν το κλασικό ταξίδι στη ‘γη όλων των μύθων’, την Αθήνα, όπου η καλλιτέχνις Μαλβίνα Παναγιωτίδη τις συναντά με σκοπό την έρευνα γύρω από τις τελετουργίες, τις ιεροτελεστίες, τους μύθους και τις διαδικασίες ‘othering’, δηλαδή της κατασκευής του άλλου. Αυτό το σταυροδρόμι προστατεύεται από την Εκάτη, τη θεά των σταυροδρομιών και την προστάτιδα των ταξιδιωτών που αντιπροσωπεύει τους ενδιάμεσους κόσμους, τη μαγεία, τα φαντάσματα, τη νεκρομαντεία κτλ. Η Εκάτη συχνά απεικονίζεται ως μια τριπλή φιγούρα, με τρία σώματα να στέκονται πλάτη με πλάτη, πιθανότατα για να μπορεί να κοιτάζει προς όλες τις κατευθύνσεις ταυτόχρονα από όλα τα σταυροδρόμια. Λόγω της πολυμορφίας και της αμφισημίας της, μας ενθαρρύνει να αγκαλιάσουμε την ετερότητα και την πολυφωνία.

What could be a perfect narrative, a beautiful story, the ideal beginning or ending of a tale? Could a single narrative be faultless? Is the world, in which we are living, errorless? Selma Köran, Fleur Melbourn, Erica Scourti, Valinia Svoronou, Giorgios Tserionis and Amalia Vekri are creating their own micro cosmos balancing between fiction and reality, addressing contemporary issues by working with “grand“ narratives and giving us the necessary space for thought and reflection. Entering the exhibition space seems like a passage to the potential parallel world future. The visitors are confronted with stories assumed to be familiar and elements that are effectively working as modern allegories.

Τι θα μπορούσε να αποτελεί μια τέλεια αφήγηση, μια όμορφη ιστορία, την ιδανική αρχή ή το ιδανικό τέλος μιας ιστορίας; Θα μπορούσε μια και μόνο αφήγηση να είναι άψογη; Είναι ο κόσμος, στον οποίο ζούμε, αψεγάδιαστος; Η Selma Köran, η FleurMelbourn, η Έρικα Σκούρτη, η Βαλίνια Σβορώνου, ο Γιώργος Τσεριώνης και η Αμαλία Βεκρή δημιουργούν τους δικούς τους μικροκόσμους ισορροπώντας μεταξύ μυθοπλασίας και πραγματικότητας, ενώ παράλληλα εξετάζουν σύγχρονα θέματα δουλεύοντας με «μεγαλοπρεπείς» αφηγήσεις και δίνοντάς μας τον απαραίτητο χώρο για σκέψη και προβληματισμό. Η είσοδος στον εκθεσιακό χώρο μοιάζει με ένα πέρασμα στο δυνητικό μέλλον ενός παράλληλου κόσμου. Οι επισκέπτες έρχονται αντιμέτωποι με υποτιθέμενα γνώριμες ιστορίες και στοιχεία που λειτουργούν αποτελεσματικά ως σύγχρονες αλληγορίες.
